Fair trial..?

Among the many rights our constitution has bestowed upon us is the right to fair trial. A right that gives every criminal a chance to give explanations for his act. This right is the acid test of a democratic country. Ajmal Amir Kasab the very man who is responsible, among other things ,for making people scared to live in Mumbai, also can exercise this right. i don't know how 'fair' this concept of a fair trial is in the given situation. How can a man who has murdered so many people justify or even try to explain his actions! A lawyer will be appointed for him, from the taxes paid by the citizens of the very city he set out to kill ! How is it fair that the terrorist gets a chance to get away with his act and the people who paid the taxes don't get any protection from him?

Is a trial like this one , which will probably show the world that Indian criminal law treats all criminals alike giving them a chance to justice, fair to the citizens who lost not just their loved ones but also security? and is it fair to the armed forces who lost many of their able men trying to defend their country?!
the unfairness of it all is perversely amusing .!

Action..

Mumbai attacks - a lot has been written and a lot has been said! Right from protest marches to peace rallies we have managed to do it, all within a week's time.! Now its time to act. To do what we so loudly and clearly shouted out to the politicians. Lets face it, India has seen enough attacks and more than enough protest marches to last her another freedom struggle! Let us the mumbaikars and all the others from all cities and corners of India take it upon ourselves to better our society.

We have been protesting against the political system of our country and we want them to have better security for us. We want them to quit their offices and we want different people in their seats. In all this 'wanting' , take a moment to see what WE are doing about it.Since it is us who want change isn't it our responsibility to stand up and get what we want.? We can no longer afford to wait for our leaders to do something for us and come to think of it y should we? Here are a few things that i could think of to start off with :

  • Get together with the people in your building and neighbouring buildings and form a group, cos only together can we all fight this battle.
  • Join the localarea office of any party that you support or think will work with you(BJP/Congress/MNS/Shiv Sena etc..) in your area. Help them in whatever work they are carrying out. Try and attend all the meetings possible that they hold and make sure to voice your opinions where ever possible. Start off with doing the work they have underway and then ask them to do things you want them to.
  • Visit your local area police stations and fire stations. Enquire about the safety measures they have in place there. Find out about their 'in case of emergency' drills. Through the party that you are working with, make sure that the police in your area get all the ammunition's, safety jackets etc.. that they need.
  • Start an NGO with the help of people in your society/ locality and create awareness among the people about why and how to bring about change.
  • DO NOT DONATE IN CASH!! Make all the donations in kind, if we give cash then thats only another reason we'll have for our next protest rally!
  • Get the BMC to clear up all the garbbage in your area that has been lying around for sumtime.Make them visit the area regularly. Get their help to remove illegal pan shops and bidi wallahs from the area.
  • Do all of this POLITELY , force will not get us anywhere..

Please do add the other possible measures that can be taken by us, that i havent managed to think of. Let us all Be the Change that we want..Let us come together and make sure we are safe. Lets do this, so that the next time around we don't have to be a part of the petty blame game that our politicans are so fond of and which we are unwiitingly being a part of.!!
